With 30 years of experience in urban planning law, environmental law and real estate law, Benoit HAVET advises his clients with an emphasis on professional thoroughness and responsiveness. He represents clients before administrative and judicial bodies and courts.
In accordance with regulations by the French- and German-speaking Bar Association of Belgium of 11 June 2007, he is certified specialist in urban planning law, environmental law and construction law.
He gives lectures at seminars, conferences and as contributor to training programmes, and is the author of numerous publications in his fields of expertise. He teaches these subjects at the University of Mons. He also takes part of the inter-university MasterClass “Professional practice and architectural project management” organized by the Order of Architects, the Free University of Brussels, the University of Liège, the Catholic University of Louvain and the University of Mons and teaches the module of criminal law of the environment and urban planning as part of the interuniversity certificate in criminal business law organized by the Catholic University of Louvain, the Free University of Brussels and the University of Liège. He teaches the course in administrative procedure as part of the certificate of aptitude for the profession of lawyer at the School of Internship of the Bars of Walloon Brabant and Hainaut.
He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Corporate Criminal Law, of the journal legal and social bulletin and of the journal Le Pli juridique.
Benoit HAVET is substitute judge at the Mons Court of Appeal. He was President of the Bar Association between 2019 and 2021. He currently holds the position of first deputy legal assessor of the Council of the Order of Architects of Brussels-Capital and Walloon Brabant.
He is a member of the Association belge francophone pour le droit de l’aménagement du territoire, de l’urbanisme et de l’environnement, the Association belge pour le droit de la construction, the Pool de réflexion sur le droit de l’environnement and the Environmental law network international. He is currently president of the European network of law firms specialising in urban planning, environmental and real estate law earthlaw.network.
His fields of activity are urban planning law, environmental law and civil real estate law (construction law, property law, real estate contracts, etc.). He also provides services in the field of public real estate law (procurement, expropriation, public domaniality, etc.).
As mediator approved by the Belgian Federal Mediation Committee, he is a conciliator, arbitrator and mediator with the Chamber of Conciliation, Arbitration and Mediation for Real Estate, which he presided from 2016 to 2018. He also assists his clients in the aforementioned means of resolving disputes in his chosen fields.
